Had our own mini adventure in the island of Penang, a 5-hour drive from Kuala Lumpur. The adventure was not really to seek for thrill or do something we haven't done before but to feed our hunger to shoot landscapes and anything else that interests us. Aside from that, the last time we were together with the group was last April 2014 so it's been a while. Kind of catching up and at the same time learning and sharing ideas we learned and those simple reasons. This was a result of a quick converstion and the last thing we knew, we had booked a serviced apartment in Batu Ferringghi.
Here we are on the way taking selfies at every stops and even inside the car.
So, off we went on a Saturday morning. Right after work, we went on a 5 hour trip to Penang with out travel guides, the car gps and waze. Although we got lost several times for some odd reasons, we manage to find our way to our destination which is in Batu Ferringhi. This place is known for their white beaches and huge rock formations. Batu Ferringhi means "foreigner's rock". This was my second time in Batu Ferringhi but it is always something different when you are with people who love the same passion as you do.
We met Dr. Manny Yambao, a filipino friend of Ate Lolit Whorlow who is also into photography and he showed us the tourist locations around Georgetown. He has been living in Penang for four years now and is so active in taking photos together with the Sunseekers group in Penang. Thank you Dr. Manny for showing us a bit of Georgetown. We surely ran out of time to go through what Georgetown has to offer and we need to visit Georgetown again just to cover what we were not able to visit.
We were unmindful of the scourging heat of the sun while we were walking along the streets of Georgetown where the murals are located. People at that time were busy doing something on the murals and other structures and some are repainting them, some are restoring and some are making it more pleasant to the eyes. Then suddenly I remembered, Georgetown Festival is coming next month (August ).
Photo above is the 360 selfie in action. Thank you Doc Manny for this photo. This was at the Chew Jetty, one of the oldest Clan Jetty in Penang. I was just surprised to see that it is more comercialised than it was 2 years ago. Specially in the Jetty area, you will see more people selling anything with majority on food and thirst quenchers like water, sofdrinks and the likes.
On the other hand, I was so discontentend about the sunset that we expected to be a beautiful one. It turned out not good as the sun literaly hid from the clouds and not giving the usual sunset colors of the sky. With the gopro, we were able to set it up from a window where we stayed and let it do its thing until the evening started. Below was our set up:
After the sunset shoot, we rested for a while and headed to Hard Rock Cafe to celebrate Jonnel's birthday and it was fun. We chilled for an hour and headed to our rented apartment. We were planning to shoot the milky way that night but we were just so tired to go on anymore and wait till midnight for the stars. That afternoon heat really made us more tired. I think I was the one who was literally awake for 24 hours that time and I was super tired too.
Overall, it was an excellent experience being able to shoot away from our comfort zones. We had fun and made our promises to visit Penang again for our unfinished photo walk. So many places to shoot there, yet so little time.
I documented the whole thing and compiled clips of our adventure. Sit back and Enjoy..
