I participated the Worldwide Photo Walk last year from the very historic place of Georgetown in Penang, Malaysia and this year here in Kuala Lumpur where I work and reside. It was a wonderful event this year considering that we the walkers reached the maximum of 50 with others on the waiting list. Although everybody can join the photo walk but only the 50 registered can submit the photos to compete among walkers within the group and the whole world to be exact. For me, being able to submit one best photo among my shots is just a plus from what the whole experience that I had with this walk. From meeting new people with the same passion, to dealing with people to shoot during the walk and getting the right moment to get the shot I wanted, are some of the skills if I may call it that will be enhanced during the whole experience.
Photo walks like this are also considered as social events because you get to meet new faces and share ideas and knowledge. I was able to meet fellow walkers and I was so happy to get to know them even with that few hour of shooting on the streets.
After checking back my earlier posts, I realized, I didn't have any blog post from my experience last year. Well just a short recap from last year, since the date coincided with my vacation at the wonderful island of Penang, I joined the walk in Georgetown, which is few minutes bus ride from where I stayed. I was the only participant that time that did not live in Georgetown or Penang as I was just really a tourist there having a vacation. Well, the walk was great and there are a lot of wonderful buildings and location to shoot as Georgetown is a heritage city. I'm proud to say that my photo was chosen to represent among all of the walkers from that walk and as a prize, I won a Lightroom ebook from Scott Kelby himself. My photo didn't make it to the top among thousands of photos submitted. If you want to know more about the winner and the finalists, please visit Scott Kelby's blog.
As I took a glance on my shots yesterday, I felt like something wonderful is going to happen, at least on my own assessment. I took a total of 276 photos and get rid of junk and selected 130 plus. Then from that photos, I have to choose which one I will submit for the group. Each walkers will be doing the same too. It is so hard to choose for the fact that it is a wide variety of photography that is involved. There is a street photography aspect which I think comes first, and then there is photo journalistic approach, you can also expect, portraits, landscapes and even macro or just everything which makes this very difficult for Scott Kelby to judge after everybody has submitted their "best photo".
Honestly, I haven't decided yet on what I will choose to submit but I'm still on the process of elimination and we only have 9 days to make up our minds. Best of luck to myself and to fellow walkers around the world. May the best photo win.
Note: I will update this post as soon as I have completed choosing the photos to upload and maybe explain in a separate blog why I chose the photos. I am everywhere in social media.
